Kinabalu National Park, recently declared as The Kinabalu UNESCO Global Geopark, was established in 1964. Led by Prof. Corner, the expedition laid the foundation for this protected area, marking it as the first national park in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. At its core is Mount Kinabalu (4,095.2 m), the highest peak between the Himalayas and New Guinea. The mountain’s slopes harbor a diverse array of plant and animal species, particularly showcasing a hotspot of plant biodiversity with connections to the Himalayas, China, Australia, Malay Peninsula, and pan-tropical regions.
